Kathleen Louise Winter

Newbury Park, CA

Kathleen Louise (Lowe) Winter, of Newbury Park CA, passed away Friday, October 12th surrounded by her friends and family. It was very sudden and unexpected. Due to her Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and the treatments to suppress her immune system she succumbed to the flu in less than 24 hours.

Kathy was born August 5, 1947 in Ventura California to William and Marjorie (Pool) Lowe. She married Peter Winter June 29, 1969 in Ventura. She graduated from Ventura High School, Ventura College and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a degree in Social Science. She worked as a Probation Officer while Peter finished school. Teaching pre-school became her passion and she did so for over 25 years in Newbury Park. Kathy loved children but her RA kept her from continuing to work. She did volunteer weekly in the Banyan Elementary Kindergarten class for 8 years assisting with art projects. Kathy also loved music and studied piano her entire life. She was active in the choir at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church for the last 40 years.

Kathy is survived by husband of 49 years, Peter Winter; son Matthew Winter and his wife Judi; daughter Amy Winter Turnbull and her husband Ryan; granddaughter Skylar Turnbull; sister Susan (Lowe) Thomson and her husband Dale along with their children Brian and Chris Thomson; sister Julie (Lowe) Needham and her husband Richard.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 10th at 2:00 PM at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, 1360 S. Wendy Dr., Newbury Park. In lieu of flowers Kathy's family is establishing a Memorial Fund in Kathy's name for the Choir at St. Matthew's. Funds can be contributed to St. Matthew's in Kathy's honor.
