Betty Elizabeth Modugno

Camarillo, CA

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Betty Elizabeth Modugno. Betty went to be with God on Pentecost Sunday, May 20, 2018. Betty was born November 29, 1936 in Mt. Sterling, KY and was the 8th of 9 children born to John and Ora Thacker. Her father was a carpenter and her mother raised vegetables, chickens, and cows (Blackie and Betty). We are not sure if Betty was named after the cow.

Betty graduated from Henry Clay High School in Lexington, KY, served in the U.S. Air Force, and was later employed by Miller Magazine, from which she retired.

Betty was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She loved her scripture study group and the women's retreats. She also loved traveling extensively with her husband Larry, her oil painting classes, painting, and playing "Bonkers", which she played with her close friends for 30+ years. She raised a seeing-eye dog the American Guide Dogs but Flossy (the dog) was just too friendly and Betty had to keep her.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Larry; children: Kimberly Damron (husband Bill), Jeffrey Brown, Sam Modugno (wife Justine) and Lisa Jaramillo (husband Jim); 9 grandchildren: Connor, J.J., Dustin, Narcisa, Nathan, Nicole, Matthew, Ashley, and Gabriella; and 12 great grandchildren: Gabriella "Ella", Emery, Sophia, Cristiano, Hannah, Gianna, Jacob, Elijah, Amelia, Noah, and Camryn. She was preceded in death by her great granddaughter, Eva.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 26 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Las Posas and Crestview, Camarillo. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
